Community Led Affordable Housing Facilitator
Initial 3 Year Contract; £30,000 salary + contributory pension scheme
Do you?.... have a passion for Community Led Housing; a keen interest in helping Communities; experience of working in the Housing Sector and would you like to work in a dynamic organisation that is a key part of a growing movement of people building Genuinely and Permanently Affordable Homes and is the leading source of advice and support for community led housing in the East Midlands… then we may have the job you are looking for.
Community-led housing has gained momentum over recent years, particularly following the commitment from Government to invest £60 million a year in the sector. The sector is now on the cusp of significant expansion and there is real potential to move it from a niche emerging market into the mainstream. To accelerate this growth, East Midlands Community Led Housing has secured grant funding from the Nationwide Foundation. This will incubate an expansion of our community-led housing advice and support service across the region, building upon our successful track record in supporting new Community Land Trusts to develop support services for all forms of community led housing.
About East Midlands Community Led Housing
Established in 2012 as Lincolnshire Community Land Trust and undergoing a name change in 2018, EMCLH is the leading source of advice and support for community led housing across the East Midlands. Our track record speaks for itself – in under six years we have helped to create six CLTs and supported Parish Councils and churches to develop housing to meet local needs. We work with a wide range of partners to create the best conditions for community led housing to flourish as well as practical grass-roots technical advice support and assistance to communities wishing to develop community led housing. EMCLH is a non-profit Community Interest Company Ltd by Guarantee.
About the role
This role is all about encouraging, advising and supporting community led housing development across the East Midlands, both urban and rural. It is unlikely that any two days will be the same – working with communities at the grass roots level through to building strategic alliances with local authorities or funders. The challenges and opportunities of this new post are many and varied, including:
- Working at a grass roots community level to encourage advise on and support community led housing development
- Building successful strategic relationships and alliances with the likes of funders and local authorities
- Developing and delivering a programme of marketing and awareness raising across the region
- Contributing to the development of good practice in supporting community led housing
The post is funded by the Nationwide Foundation for a period of three years, but the aim is that this post will continue long after this time. The post holder will develop a client base and income streams to sustain our work after the initial grant funding has ended.
The post will be based in central Leicester with travel throughout the region. Reporting to the Senior Facilitator based in Lincoln, the post holder will have responsibility for developing and implementing their own work plan.
This is an exciting and challenging role. It could be the right opportunity for a range of potential candidates. Your motivations might be many and varied – from wanting to develop your career in housing, to having a passion for communities or community ownership of assets, or because you want the room to develop a new role within a flexible and growing third sector organisation. Whatever your motivations EMCLH would like to hear from you. Particularly if you: enjoy a variety of tasks and challenges, are creative, enterprising, flexible and ambitious and can work with both the big picture and deliver on the detail. You will also feel strongly about the importance of social justice and the difference that CLTs and community-led housing can make.
